Stephen Dahmer, MD is our new director at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine and the chief of Integrative Medicine at University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson. He is a recognized expert in the field of Integrative Medicine who seamlessly integrates clinical expertise, research initiatives, and entrepreneurial leadership. He comes to the Center from a distinguished career reinventing healthcare approaches and shaping holistic healthcare paradigms including as Lead Physician at Iora Health, Chief Medical Officer at Goodness Growth and his most recent position as founding Primary Care Physician at Sana Care.
Dr. Dahmer's exploration of medicinal plant uses in diverse cultures has led him from Brazil's slums, to Maori clinics in New Zealand, and to serving as a hospitalist for the Navajo Tribe in Arizona. His academic pursuits include active roles at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His research, encompassing clinical trials on medical plants, emphasizes a compassionate and integrative approach to clinical care.
Dr. Dahmer completed his medical school training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He chose to attend a family medicine residency at Beth Israel Hospital in New York due to his dedication to comprehensive patient care, particularly in underserved communities. He completed his fellowship in Integrative Family Medicine at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. He then practiced integrative primary care at the Beth Israel Continuum Center for Health and Healing. Dr. Dahmer's volunteer work and advisory roles for healthcare ventures also reflect his commitment to community welfare.
Dr Dahmer's professional journey epitomizes a nuanced approach to Integrative Medicine with an emphasis on blending tradition and innovation, compassionate patient care, and a global perspective.
Scott Gimple, MBA
Scott Gimple is the Executive Director at the University of Arizona Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine (AWCIM), where he collaborates with the Director to establish the strategic vision and roadmap for expanding the Center and advancing Integrative Medicine.
Prior to his appointment at AWCIM, Scott garnered extensive experience in leadership across varied industries. He served as the President and CEO of Ability Dogs of Arizona, a nonprofit organization based in Tucson. Preceding this, he dedicated thirteen years to the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), where he held the positions of Director of Finance and Operations and Deputy Executive Director, overseeing operations for an organization with 800 programs and serving over 400,000 children, and with annual revenue of just over $80 million.
Scott's professional trajectory encompasses a sixteen-year tenure within the entertainment sector. At Universal Studios Hollywood, Recreation Division, he fulfilled the role of Corporate Security Director. Additionally, he played a pivotal role as a member of the startup team at DreamWorks S.K.G., assuming responsibilities as Head of Security, Safety, and Travel.
Educationally, Scott is an alumnus of the University of Arizona, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He holds a Master's in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Pepperdine University.
Mari Ricker, MD
Director of Integrative Medicine in Residency and Professor of Family and Community Medicine
Dr. Ricker graduated from the University of Virginia with a BA in Biology and from the University of Arizona with her degree in Medicine. She completed her Family Medicine Residency at Oregon Health and Science University, in Portland Oregon. After residency, Dr. Ricker served as Chief Resident and Faculty Development Fellow. During this fellowship year Dr. Ricker also completed the Fellowship in Integrative Medicine though the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine and is certified as a diplomate of the ABOIM.
Dr. Ricker is a Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. She practices outpatient Family Medicine. She is the Director for the Integrative Medicine in Residency Program at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine.
Esther Sternberg, MD
Dr. Sternberg is internationally recognized for her discoveries in brain-immune interactions and the effects of the brain's stress response on health: the science of the mind-body interaction. A dynamic speaker, recognized by her peers as a spokesperson for the field, she translates complex scientific subjects in a highly accessible manner, with a combination of academic credibility, passion for science and compassion as a physician.
Currently Professor of Medicine and Research Director, Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, University of Arizona, Tucson, Dr. Sternberg is Founding Director, of the UA Institute on Place, Wellbeing & Performance, a unique interdisciplinary Institute linking biomedical, health professionals and design professionals to research and create places supporting health and wellbeing. She received her M.D. degree and trained in rheumatology at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. She previously served on the faculty at Washington University, St. Louis, MO (1980-86); was Senior Scientist and Section Chief at the National Institutes of Health (1986-2012); and was Research Professor at American University (Washington, DC)
In addition to numerous publications in leading scientific journals, she is reviewer and editorial board member for many scientific journals, has edited several textbooks, has authored two popular books: The Balance Within: The Science Connecting Health and Emotions (W.H. Freeman & Co., 2000, paperback H. Holt 2001; Dutch 2001, Chinese 2002; Japanese 2005) and best-selling Healing Spaces: The Science of Place and Well-being (Harvard University Press, 2009; paperback 2010; German 2011; Korean 2013); and created and hosted a PBS television special, The Science of Healing, based on her books. Dr. Sternberg is a regular contributor to the "Books et al." section of Science Magazine and writes a column for Arthritis Today (readership 4 million). She lectures nationally and internationally to lay and scientific audiences and is frequently interviewed on radio, television, film, Web, and print media on the mind-body connection; place and wellbeing; 'stress and illness'; spirituality, love, and health; including on NPR Radio's Krista Tippett's Speaking of Faith, On Being, Science Friday; PBS Television's The New Medicine, Life (Part 2;international radio and television (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation; Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Voice of America).
While at NIH, Dr. Sternberg served as Chief of the Section on
Neuroendocrine Immunology & Behavior, National Institute of Mental
Health; Director, Integrative Neural Immune Program, NIMH/NIH;
Co-Chair NIH Intramural Program on Research on Women's Health; and
established and directed the NIH-Quebec Fonds de Recherche
International Research Career Transition Award Program. Her numerous
original scientific and review articles and textbook chapters are
published in leading scientific journals including Science,
Nature Reviews Immunology, Nature
Medicine, The New England Journal of Medicine, Scientific
American and Proceedings of the National Academy of
Sciences. In recognition of her work, she received the Public
Health Service's Superior Service Award; Arthritis Foundation's
William R. Felts Award for Excellence in Rheumatology Research; United
States Department of Health and Human Services Public Health Service
Staff Recognition Award; FDA Commissioner's Special Citation; NIH
Director's Challenge Award; NIMH Director's Merit Award; elected to
the American Society for Clinical Investigation; Committee member of
the National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine; testified
before Congress; World Health Organization advisor; member of the
National Library of Medicine's (NLM) Literature Selection Technical
Review Committee for selection of journals for PubMed. Dr. Sternberg
has lectured and keynoted at the Smithsonian Institution (Washington,
D.C.); Nobel Forum (Karolinska Institute, Stockholm); Royal Society of
Medicine (London, UK); Woman's Heart Day (Madison Square Garden NYC
& Verizon Center Washington, DC), TEDx Tucson. She has chaired
many national and international scientific conferences; is
past-President of the International Society for Neuroimmunomodulation;
moderated a panel with the Dalai Lama (2005); was a panelist at the
United Nations (Sept. 11, 2008); co-directed a concurrent NLM
Exhibition and video on "Emotions and Disease"; invited
delegate Fortune Magazine's Most Powerful Women Summit.
For her accomplishments, which galvanized establishment of the
field of brain immune interactions, Dr. Sternberg is recognized and
the National Library of Medicine as one of 300 women physicians who
changed the Face of Medicine (www.nlm.nih.gov/changingthefaceofmedicine/),
and by NIH with the Anita B. Roberts "Distinguished Women
Scientists at NIH" Lectureship (2012). In recognition of her
contributions to medicine & leadership in Neuroimmunology, Trinity
College Dublin (Ireland) awarded Dr. Sternberg an Honorary Degree of
Doctor in Medicine (Doctorate Honoris Causa) on the 300th anniversary
of Trinity College Dublin School of Medicine. For her leadership at
the interface of the fields of design and health she is advising the
US Green Building Council, the American Institute of Architects, the
US General Services Administration, the Institute of Medicine and the
US Department of Defense on the impact of the built and natural
environment on human health outcomes. In 2012 she was invited to
Keynote the Vatican's 27th Pontifical Council for Healthcare Workers
and met with Pope Benedict XVI on the subject of the impact of Place

Robert (Rocky) Crocker, MD
Robert Crocker joined the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine in 2012. His first task was to open the Integrative Health Center in Phoenix and is instrumental in future health centers. He has been involved in the development of the Integrative health and lifestyle program, has been a key leader for the Integrative Health Coaching Program, and is deeply involved in the IMPACT study for clinical outcomes.
Prior to coming to AzCIM, Dr. Crocker was with American Specialty Health (ASH) as its chief medical officer. He was involved in the management and ongoing development of the company's medical management programs and products, as well as oversight of ASH's clinical service operations.
Dr. Crocker had a distinguished career in private practice and as national medical director for both UNICARE/Cost Care and WellPoint Health Networks. He also previously served as chief of staff at River Oaks Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi, and as a part-time clinical instructor in the University of Mississippi's family medicine program.
Dr. Crocker is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice and has held leadership positions in many industry organizations, including America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) and the American Association of Preferred Provider Organizations (AAPPO). In addition, Dr. Crocker served on the board of directors of URAC from 2001 through 2010 including serving as chairman of URAC's board of directors.
Dr. Crocker holds a bachelor's of science degree in chemistry from Mississippi College, he later graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and he is a graduate of the Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. He has served as a health consultant, provided oversight of previous humanitarian relief efforts in Central Asia, and more recently has been working with aboriginal communities in Australia.
Devorah Morris Coryell
Ms. Coryell has been director of IMER since 2018, and has served as faculty and advisor to the AWCIM Medicine from its inception. She has been a pioneer, educator and author in the fields of health and wellness since developing and directing the original wellness/education program at Canyon Ranch Wellness Resorts in Tucson, Az. (1982) and Lenox, Mass. (1989). She went on to create wellness programs at The Pritikin Longevity Institute (Avventura, FL.) and King Ventures (San Luis Obispo, CA.). In the corporate sector, she has been instrumental in developing corporate wellness programs for Four Seasons Resorts; Sandler Capital Management; Bramalea Ltd and Watermark Corp. Upon leaving Canyon Ranch, she founded and directed the Shiva Foundation, a not-forprofit dedicated to education and counseling for those engaged with grief and loss; and authored Good Grief: Healing through the Shadow of Loss (1997) which continues to be used in training grief educators and counselors. Ms. Coryell has a private practice counseling individuals and families facing catastrophic life events.
Molly Burke, MFA
Molly K. Burke joined the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine (AWCIM) at the University of Arizona in February of 2000. She has enjoyed being a part of all aspects of creating and delivering online educational offerings. As Director of Online Education since 2012, she works with program directors, faculty, and the development team to design, create, improve and maintain our many and diverse online educational offerings. She is passionate about exploring new ways to provide integrative medicine focused learning to health care practitioners and patients.
Molly designed and co-directs the Integrative
Health and Wellness program (IHeLp), a 6-month interprofessional
online certificate program, and the
Integrative Health and Wellness Coaching certification - an
approved program recognized by the National Board in Health and
Wellness Coaching.
Additionally, she has led efforts at AWCIM with offerings for
the public - the largest being My Wellness Coach, a
mobile health app based on motivational interviewing, integrative
principles, and health coaching. She has engaged in
researching the app across a diverse population and how it supports
health behavior changes. She led the development and launch of CanHEAL,
an integrative cancer resource toolkit for patients, caregivers, and
health providers.
Prior to joining the Center, Molly earned a 1000 hour
certification in massage therapy. She has a bachelor's degree in media
arts and an MFA in creative writing - both from the University of
Arizona. She has been a board member of IM4US (2018-2020).
Stephanie Feder
Stephanie Feder is the Sr. Business Development Director for The Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. She is responsible for the strategic vision and execution of the Center's Marketing efforts, partnerships, experiential events, and business expansion. Stephanie comes with over 10 years of experience in high-growth start-ups. During her 6 years at Uber, as one of the first 500 employees, she launched 10 US markets, worked/lived in China on the National Marketing Team working on experimental and experiential marketing campaigns, and sat on the Business Development team negotiating and managing West Coast Professional Sports Partnerships. Most recently she was the Vice President of Business Development for Qwick, where she was responsible for new market launches, corporate partnerships, revenue generation, and sales strategy. Stephanie is a University of Arizona graduate, and she earned her degree in Regional Development and Business Administration.
Andrew Weil, MD
Founder and Director of the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona holds the Lovell-Jones Endowed Chair in Integrative Medicine and is a Clinical Professor of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Andrew Weil is the leading figure in integrative medicine, renowned for his integrative approach to health and wellness. Ann Marie Chiasson, MD MPH ABOIM
Director of the Fellowship at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine and an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of Arizona. Dr. Ann Marie Chiasson is a respected physician and integrative medicine expert known for her work in mind-body healing and energy medicine. She combines her background in conventional medicine with evidence-based healing modalities, such as acupuncture, energy work, and mindfulness practices, to promote wellness. Dr. Chiasson emphasizes the importance of balancing physical, emotional, and energetic aspects of health for overall well-being. Lise Alschuler, ND, FABNO
Associate Director of the Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. She is a leading naturopathic doctor specializing in integrative oncology. She combines conventional cancer treatments with evidence-based natural therapies, emphasizing personalized care for patients. Dr. Alschuler is an educator and author, known for empowering patients and healthcare professionals with knowledge about holistic cancer care. Her approach integrates lifestyle interventions, nutrition, botanical medicine, and mind-body techniques, making her a respected authority in the field.
Victoria Maizes, MD
Internationally recognized as a leader in integrative medicine, she stewarded the growth of the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. She is the founding co-chair of the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine education committee. Dr. Maizes speaks worldwide to audiences on integrative medical education, women's health, healthy aging, nutrition, and cancer. She has published numerous articles and book chapters on integrative medicine and is the co-editor of the Oxford University textbook Integrative Women's Health and the author of Be Fruitful: The Essential Guide to Maximizing Fertility and Giving Birth to a Healthy Child. Dr Maizes is the Body of Wonder podcast co-host with Dr Andrew Weil. Her groundbreaking work, vibrant advocacy, and empowering guidance have made her a true icon in the field, inspiring both patients and healthcare professionals worldwide.
Randy Horwitz, MD, PhD
Medical Director of the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine and a Professor of Medicine at the University of Arizona who received an MD from the University of Illinois, and a PhD (Immunology & Molecular Biology) from the University of Florida. He completed postdoctoral research training at the National Institutes of Health, residency training in Internal Medicine at University Hospitals, Cleveland (Case Western Reserve University), and a three-year fellowship in Allergy & Clinical Immunology at the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Horwitz also completed a Residential Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona, focusing on mind-body approaches to illness. He is triple board-certified in Internal Medicine, Allergy & Clinical Immunology, and Integrative Medicine.
In 2012, his textbook Integrative Rheumatology was released (Oxford University Press). In 2016, Dr. Horwitz was appointed to the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) and USMLE test committee for Immunology. He also served as the Founding Chair of the American Board of Integrative Medicine (ABOIM). He was also recently named an Adjunct Professor of Medicine, University of Western Australia Medical School where he is helping to develop a Global Medical School.
