Integrative PeriOperative Care (2023-25)
Surgery can be daunting, and even when done by the best surgeons, can be traumatic on physical and mental/emotional levels. It is reassuring for patients to receive guidance in how they can proactively prepare for surgery and ways that they can optimize their healing from surgery.
Educational Purpose
Participants will gain an understanding of integrative interventions that can provide surgical support across all stages of the perioperative period.

Course objectives:
- Assess patient frailty and its contributions to perioperative risk
- Define Perioperative Care and Integrative Perioperative Care
- Incorporate ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) principles, objectives and pathways
- Identify key integrative strategies prior to surgery to optimize surgical outcomes
- Identify patient risk factors for surgery as well as integrative strategies to maximize patient resilience and reduce this risk
- Identify the contributory role of chronic inflammation in increased risk of post-surgical complications
- Identify evidence-based strategies for optimizing surgical outcomes throughout the peri-operative period
- Discuss controversial issues regarding integrative co-management during perioperative care
Completion Requirements
Complete all the course work, course evaluation, and the final test with a score of 70% or better. Upon successful completion you will be able to print your certificate of completion.
Target Audience
This online enduring material educational program is designed for physicians, advanced nurse practitioners, and physician assistants and other health care providers who have an interest in surgical outcomes.

Course completion is contingent upon successful course exam outcome. The course exam is 10 multiple choice questions. There are a total of 3 attempts to pass the exam with a 70 percent or better score.
